As the year comes to a close and we sit on the edge of a new one, not everyone makes New Year’s resolutions—but they should. These resolutions give you the opportunity to improve your life, whether you aim to quit smoking or go to the gym more frequently. Unfortunately, even those who make resolutions don’t always follow through. These simple and beneficial New Year’s resolutions are as attainable as they are impactful to your daily life.

Reading More Frequently

Some people love to read a chapter from a good book each night, while others haven’t touched a book in years. If you fall into the second category, reading more frequently should be at the top of your resolutions list.

Books can be a form of escapism from everyday stress or a motivational tool to help you achieve new goals on a daily basis. The earliest months of the new year are the best time to do this since you’ll probably spend plenty of time in your home staying warm.

Whether you pick up a fantasy novel that takes you on an incredible adventure or the non-fiction memoir of an individual who excelled in a field you’re interested in, there’s no shortage of beneficial books available. You can even buy audiobooks for when you’re driving or working out.

Discovering New Hobbies

One of the best examples of simple and beneficial New Year’s resolutions is the goal of learning something new. Using your free time to explore new activities is a fantastic method for discovering passions you didn’t even realize you had.

In fact, you might uncover something you’d like to pursue as a career down the line. If you don’t cook often, consider signing up for a food delivery service and using the included ingredients to develop your skills in the kitchen.

On the other hand, you can begin a small garden in the yard, which can be an immensely relaxing and gratifying activity. These are just two of the seemingly endless number of hobbies to explore in the world around you. When you feel directionless, moving out of your comfort zone and trying something new can get you back on track.

Improving Your Diet

It might be hard to believe, but improving one’s diet is easier than some folks realize. For example, if you frequently consume energy drinks to get through work, school, and other daily tasks, switch to a good loose-leaf tea instead.

There are many types of energy-boosting teas available, such as Yerba Mate, that can improve your mood and focus for hours. Likewise, swap unhealthy snack foods with more nutrient- and vitamin-rich options like vegetables or fruit.

Instead of grabbing a brownie or a pack of fruit snacks, reach for a flavorful, vitamin C-packed clementine. “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” isn’t a saying your mom made up to annoy you. A consistent source of vitamins and minerals is crucial for staying healthy and happy throughout the day.
